Madinah is the city of ni’mah/blessings – Alhamdu lillaah that Allah chose this city to be where my family and I are from.

My father is like Umar (radhiyy Allahu anhu). Do you know the story of Umar? He used to ask Allah for martyrdom in Madinah but the companions would say, “How O leader of the believers? It’s forbidden to engage in battle in this city”… Nonetheless he (Umar) continued to make that dua until Allah fulfilled his wish and he was murdered by Abu Lu’lu al-Majoosi whilst Umar was leading the people in prayer! Allahu Akbar, so he got his wish.

I used to walk past my father’s room as he prayed the night prayer and I would hear him asking Allah to die in Madinah as a martyr. Two years ago, my father was diagnosed with stomach cancer. We tried to get him to the best doctors abroad but he declined. Even a good friend of mine who is a doctor specialising in this area in London offered his services but my father refused. He said that the thought of dying anywhere else grieved him. So we let him remain until his last day in Madinah.

Alhamdu lillaah like Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) my father got his wish. He is now buried in Al-Baqi cemetery – Alhamdulillaah.

My father taught at the Masjid Nabawi for 45 years! He taught Fiqh/Islamic jurisprudence. As a son I am so grateful that Allah gave me a father like him and now I want nothing more than to allow his good deeds to continue by providing him with more sadaqah jaariyah (ongoing charity). I ask Allah to make me successful in this endeavour.
