Shaykh Abdul Bari al-Thubaiti
Abdul Bari bin Awadh bin Ali bin Muhammad Al-Thubaiti, who hails from the Otaiba tribe, was born in Mecca on July 15, 1960. Raised in Mecca, he completed his early and secondary education in the city's schools and memorized the Quran at a young age.
Shaykh Abdul Bari earned his Bachelor's degree from King Abdulaziz University in 1984. He continued his education to obtain a Master's degree in Sharia Law with honors from the same university in 1995 and achieved his Ph.D. in Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) with distinction and honors from the Islamic University of Madina in 2001.
He has been recognized nationally and internationally for his achievements in Quran memorization and recitation, securing first place in both national and international competitions held in Mecca in 1979. By his teenage years, he was appointed by the Ministry of Hajj and Endowments as an Imam in a Makkah mosque and, at 17, was sent to lead Tarawih prayers during Ramadan in a British Islamic centre in 1977.
Shaykh Abdul Bari is currently an associate professor at the Institute of Imams and Preachers at Taibah University in Madina. In terms of leading the prayer he was appointed as an Imam for Tarawih and Qiyam prayers in the Grand Mosque of Makkah for four years starting in 1990, and as an Imam and preacher at the Masjid al-Nabawi in 1994.
Shaykh Abdul Bari has made notable contributions beyond his academic and religious commitments, engaging deeply with charitable and educational endeavors. He contributes in several capacities, such as being the executive chairman of the King Abdullah Foundation in Medina, and supporting an orphan care village in Medina, underscoring his dedication to enhancing social welfare and education.
