I was sitting in the Haram between Maghrib and Isha, as is my habit. After praying two rakats, I leaned against a pillar and began making dua. A thought suddenly crossed my mind: “Ya Allah, You know everything about me; You hear my words in dua, but how can I hear from You? How can I know Your response?” It felt almost childlike, but it was an honest question from the heart that occurred to me in my conversation with Allah.

No sooner had the thought entered my heart, that a woman from the group standing nearby came directly towards me. She stopped in front me, looking me in the eye. I assumed she was about to ask something like when the Rawda would open (a common question here). Instead, she recited the following verse from the Quran:
إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًۭا مُّبِينًۭا
“Surely, We have granted you an open victory”.

She kept looking at me, and I met her gaze. Then she asked, “Arabi?” (Do you speak Arabic?). Though I don’t speak Arabic, I knew the meaning of the verse she had recited, so I didn’t say no. I just smiled. She then said, “اللهم صلّ على محمد” (Allah bless Muhammad ﷺ), turned and walked away back into the crowd.

My response was automatic. I burst into tears and fell into sujood, speechless, with the knowledge that Allah is always with us showing us His endless love.
