Masjid Quba
The name "Quba" originally referred to a well located in the region. Subsequently, the surrounding village adopted this name. Positioned approximately 3 kilometers south of Masjid al-Nabawi, Quba is now an integral part of the city of Madina.
Upon his migration to Madina, the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) first stopped in Quba. It was here that he founded a mosque, which the Quran praises as,
"A Masjid established upon taqwa from its inception."
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah commenting on this said:
"This verse was revealed in relation to Masjid Quba, and it also applies to that which is more deserving of it, namely the Masjid in Madina (Masjid al-Nabawi)."
Allah Taala also mentioned the people of Quba in the Quranic verse,
"In it there are men who love to purify themselves."
After establishing Masjid Quba the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) continued his migration journey to Madina, en-route he encountered Jumah with the Bani Salim clan and offered the Jumah prayer there. He then travelled on and arrived in Madina where he established the Masjid al-Nabawi.
Virtue of Prayer in Masjid Quba
It is desirable to visit the Masjid Quba and pray there. Ibn Umar said,
"The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) would come to Masjid Quba every Saturday, walking or riding upon an animal." Bukhari and Muslim
Therefore if it is possible to visit on a Saturday then it is superior, and if not then visiting any day of the week to pray is fine.
It is recommended to perform wudu at home or where a person is staying and then come to Masjid Quba based on the hadith of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace),
"Whomsoever purifies themselves in their home, then comes to the Masjid Quba and offer prayer therein, will receive the like of the reward of an Umrah." Reported by Ibn Majah
